“I learned to cook,” says Bangkok-born Pim Techamuanvivit, “when I first tasted what passed for Thai food here in the States. Before that, I couldn’t even boil an egg.” Homesick for the food she’d grown up eating, and disappointed by the versions she sampled in American restaurants, the owner of Kin Khao started learning the recipes for her favorite dishes through long phone calls with relatives back home and annual trips back to Thailand.
